Christmas Day 2006

We enjoyed a great Christmas! We started off the morning reading the Christmas story together and then each of us taking a part. We each took a piece of our made nativity pieces and told the story. Sarah and I slaved over a turkey and ham dinner with ALL (I mean ALL) of the fixin's! It was sooooooooooo yummy! Well worth all of the work. After we finished eating we sat at the table singing each Christmas carol in the hymnal. It was a lot of fun! We praise God that Christmas is about Christ not just presents, trees, and food. One more Christmas past and what a great day it was!

Christmas Fun!

We are enjoying our time here waiting for Christmas to come. Sarah came on Wednesday and we are so glad to have her here for Christmas. We went to see some lights, went shopping several times in the past few days in the craziness (I guess that helps to get you in the Christmas spirit??), we did some Christmas baking, and some caroling to our neighbors last night. The baking was fun but the scale results were not too pretty!! :) So today is a NO SWEETS day. Last night we continued our tradition (started last year) of making our own nativity. Actually, Ben is the creative one in this area.

Well, Merry Christmas to all. We rejoice in the Christmas time not because of the frills and lights of the season but because of God sending His son Jesus to save us from our sins.

Scary Mommy!!

Isabelle loves to play peek-a-boo and lovees it when we "jump" out at her. (Yeah, kinda weird but that's an Ice for you I guess!) Anyways, we caught it on video this time! Her scream and laugh is too funny not to share! :)

Walking with the walker

Isabelle is now 15 months old and we just celebrated her 12month adjusted bday last Saturday. At her 15 month check-up she weighed 18lbs (at the 1st %) and was 29 inches long (at the 12th %). So for her actual age she is a little smaller than the average but right on track for her adjusted size.

Here's a video of Isabelle trying to walk with her walker. She still would much rather crawl than try to walk, but she'll get it soon enough! :)

Christmas Time!!!

We went Thursday night to Lowe's and bought our Christmas tree! Getting and decorating our tree is one of our favorite holiday things to do together (of course as we listen to Christmas music!). Last year someone offered to buy our tree for us as a gift so we were able to get an 8ft tree. This year we decided to settle on a 6-7ft tree which is closer to 7ft than 6ft, but it's beautiful. We went to the trees and I said "Oh, these look so short!" So Ben grabbed one from the back that looked taller and was still tied up. He untied it and it looked pretty good so he said, "Let's get it!" But for me I want to make sure I have the "best" tree. "Oh, no we have to open up a few more!!!" I said. Well, with a little convincing by my lovely husband that this tree would do we ended up with the first one we looked at and it tured out really pretty all decorated. :) Today we put up some lights outside so, minus the snow, things are looking more like Christmas!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

What a wonderful thanksgiving we had today with lots of family fun. We are in Indiana with the Ice side of the family, thanksgiving for us is the BIG Ice get-together time. It is so great to be able to have fun with all the cousins and brother & sisters.

Mom Ice and others worked hard the past couple days getting all of the dinner together and we sat down to enjoy the FEAST today around 2:30p.m. A little later we spent some time reading some Bible verses, singing, and sharing testimonies of praise to the Lord. This is always such a refreshing time as we each take a moment to share how God has blessed and taught us things this year.

This morning I read from Psalm 100 in my quiet time. It was a good reminder to me that God says "we are HIS people and the sheep of His pasture." As I thought on that verse God impressed upon me that fact that no matter what happens in our life God cares and loves me and wants the best for me as a shepherd does for his sheep. And because of this we can always "enter into His gates with THANKSGIVING; and into His courts with PRAISE!" God is good all the time and I am thankful for His blessings upon us!

This morning as I was getting ready Isabelle woke up and Ben went in to get her. Through the monitor Ben calls, "Dayna, come in here and see us!" And when I went in to my suprise Daddy had jumped right in bed with Isabelle! I just laughed and said, " I sure hope you don't break that bed." and then ran quick to capture a "kodak" moment! I thought some might get a laugh out of seeing Ben in the crib but can see him doing something like that too! :)

Isabelle also loves her baths!!! Just say the word bath and she heads to the tub. The other picture was from yesterday when Isabelle went to a friend of mines house while I went to the dentist. Callie and Isabelle were born on the same day and seem to be coming great juice drinking friends! :)

We're having a busy week this week with revivals every night with Will Galkin. The meetings have been so good and such a challenge for checking on our walk with the Lord!

We're looking forward to Thanksgiving next week and seeing lots of family!

One Year Home!

Tomorrow we will celebrate Isabelle being home with us from the hospital for 1 year. After 5 blood transfusions and a few setbacks here and there we were able to being Isabelle home at only 35 weeks gestation. It's amazing to think that last year this time we were coming home with a 4lb 12oz baby that was on 25cc's of oxygen and an apnea monitor. God has been so faithful in answering our prayers for Isabelle and many of yours as well.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

As the verse says, God knew everything that would happen in Isabelle's life and ours. What a comfort it was to know that through it all His purpose was for our good.

Can I help???

One of Isabelle's favorite things is to "help" empty the dishwasher. As soon as she hears/sees one of us opening it she drops any toy that may be occupying her at the time and crawls as fast as she can to the dishwasher. Her new way of tell us she likes something is by giving a happy scream or by giving little giggles and laughs. She especially likes to talk and giggle while she eats. On Saturday she had her first taste of lasanga and loved it!

Today is actually a beautiful 75 degree day but Isabelle just got a new hat and mittens os we tried them on this morning just to test 'em out! :)
BTW~for some reason my computer won't upload the pics straight to the blogger. The only way that works seems to be the slide.com way. :)

Fall at the Park

Happy Birthday!

Ben's 29th birthday was Sunday and we celebrated with his favorite Homemade Mac & Cheese and some heath brownies with icecream for dessert. Daddy got a new Bible and some new running shoes.

I didn't have to teach yesterday so Isabelle helped me do some laundry in the morning. Though I didn't expect for our washer to pour out water all over our floors. We thought we got it all dry until the laundry area smelt like dirty wet socks last night. Nope, we didn't get it all dry so now the washer and dryer and in the middle of the hallway while a fan trys to dry the wood floor. Oh, the joys of having your own home and getting a (what looks to be brand new) free washer & dryer from someone when we moved from WI. Hopefully it will dry out today and stop leaking so I can get some more laundry done soon.

Well, hope you have a good day. We just love reading and checking up on everyone's blogs! Enjoy the fall weather!

The Great Treasure Hunt

Tonight we had a Truth Trackers family activity called The Great Treasure Hunt. It was a lot of fun! We had around 125 people there. Ben did a lot of work to get the whole thing together and all of his hard work paid off - the night was a blast.

The workers dressed up as different characters, ie pirates, old ladies, landlovers, seamates, etc. The families had to go around and answer questions from each character to try and earn the most coins in order to win the grand GOLD coin! The coins had the 10 commandments on them. When the game was over we all came back together and Ben shared the gospel through the 10 commandment coin. The winning family got to take home the real gold 10 commandment coin and everyone else got a plastic silver 10 commandment coin.

We had a great time. Enjoy the pics! :)

Isabelle Update

Since we're not using the caringbridge site anymore I miss updating about our little Isabelle. So I thought I'd put up a post to update about her so I can have it online to keep always and for anyone who wants to know too! :)

Isabelle is 13 months old now (10months by development). Isabelle's newest thing is pulling herself to standing and gently getting herself back down. I guess she decided that falling and hitting her head on the floor from a standing position just wasn't going to do anymore. :) She loves to follow us from room-to-room in the house and even go and do a little exploring herself once and a while. Isabelle can wave "hi" and "bye-bye," she can clap her hands, play peek-a-boo with her blanket, and will touch her hair when we say, "Where's Isabelle's pretty hair?" It's so much fun to watch her learning and growing. I quite often think back to where we were this time last year (NICU) and praise God for His hand upon Isabelle and our family!

Isabelle eats almost anything now. She really likes to feed herself. She likes to feed herself green beans, peas, potatoes, bananas, apples, graham crackers, and mac&cheese. And she loves her juice!

Psalm 16:11 ...In THY presence is fullness of JOY! We praise the Lord that when we're walking with Him we can have eternal joy!

Staff Retreat

This weekend we had to leave Isabelle for the first time overnight (since the NICU days) as we went on the staff retreat with all the pastors at Calvary. We had a great time in Flat Rock, NC and the surrounding towns. The colors up in the mountains we gorgeous! What a beautiful view we had of God's handy work when we were up on top of the mountain and when we did some hiking.

Of course we both missed Isabelle so much, but I was the one with the tears when we went to bed both nights thinking of her. She did very well though and had a great time with Kylee Moye and "Nana Manor!" She just loved having some little kids to watch and play with and laugh at!

Hope the new slide show comes up okay. Also take a look at Ben's new Truth Trackers website that he just recently gave a "face lift" to. www.truthtrackers.org

Isabelle trying to keep up with her daddy.

Dayna and Isabelle listening to the Good News of Jesus Christ. This is a cute girl showing off her friend. She is in Dayna's memory group.
Last night at Truth Trackers we had a Friend Night with a Hilly Billy and Hilly Jilly Theme. The kids all dressed up and so did Isabelle. On these nights, kids bring their friends that need to hear the Good News. The kids brought 14 visitors and 6 children trusted in Christ. Praise the Lord! It is great to see children come to see their need of a Savior. If only we had tender hearts toward sin like children do. We had a "ho down," some fun skits, and a special speaker. The Hilly Billy playing the guitar above is a real cowboy (but a hill billy for the night).

The Apple Orchard

Today we went to the apple orchard for Isabelle's first time picking apples! It was such a beautiful day today, too nice to stay inside! We had a great time and Sarah, as you can probably guess I got a little carried away with the apple picking like with the peach picking we did and have a good number of apples to eat or do something with. :) As they say, "an apple a day keeps the dr. away" maybe the dr. will be kept far away for a while with all these apples!

We did hear from Isabelle's dr. yesterday about her blood test and they said everything came out normal with her iron level and all. They still want us to give her some extra iron for a while just to give her a little more boost, I guess>? Even though we did go to the orchard today Isabelle has had a little fever on and off since yesterday so pray that she'll get better soon. With her not feeling well makes for some long nights of getting up and down several times.

Anyways, hope you enjoy the pics and have a great day in the house of the Lord tomorrow!

We had a most exciting day today. After teaching this morning Isabelle and I met daddy for lunch and then headed off to the dr. for some tests. For those who don't know...On Friday Isabelle pulled down the baby monitor in our room and it bonked her on the side of the head (not very hard mind you) and when Ben went to pick her up she was not breathing, her eyes were rolling back in her head, and she was stiff as a board with her back arched. She's done this 3 other times when I've been home by myself but the first time that daddy has seen it. As with the other times it happened we were patting her, calling her name, blowing at her but nothing seemed to bring her breath back. So I ran her outside in the fresh air to see if she would breathe. By now she is a nice color of bluish, pale and doesn't look so good. I call to been to call 911 b/c I wasn't sure if she was going to be ok or not. Finally she I guess relaxed enough to take some small breaths though still VERY dusky and not totally with it. By the time the EMS got here she was back to color and seemed fine. They checked her out and said she was ok as far as they could tell. So, after calling her dr. (which she already knows about this happening) she consulted with some other dr.s and they think it's just breath holding b/c of being startled but thought we should just check things out.

So...today she had an EEG to check her heart and it looks normal. Isabelle was so good not crying and laying on the table so good UNTIL...she saw the nurse coming with something in her hand and she knew it wasn't icecream :) She started screaming. They were going to take her blood. I thought we were just getting a finger prick but no, they we actually taking blood. I was freaking out too as much as she was. The nurse started to put the needle in the vein and couldnt get the blood so had to keep trying while I was saying with tears, "Forget it, never mind, just take it out, I don't care, lets just not do it!" She said, "are you sure?" YES!! Just then she got it and the blood started coming and it was over soon after that. Whew!!!I felt so bad and ISabelle just cried and cried for a few minutes. They won't get the final results for a few days so until then they are wanting me to give her iron drops b/c sometimes breath holding spells can be b/c of low iron. We're praying that the iron issue is the only real issue. Anyways, thought you might like to hear about our day. The best part was seeing our favorite dr./friend, Erica, who was over Isabelle for a little while in the NICU~Thanks for stopping in!!!!

Yesterday we went to a NICU reunion at Furman in the afternoon and saw some of the dr.s and a few nurses but were sad not to see any of Isabelle's very special nurses. Above is a picture of Isabelle with the head dr. over her right when she was born. The best dr. we could have asked for who had been in NICU for 30years. Enjoy the pictures!!

Looking Back

Lately I’ve been thinking about where we were with Isabelle just one year ago. Wow, as I took a look back at these entries I was again hit with the fact that God was totally in control of her little life when everything in our once “regular” life had been turned upside down. Praise God that though we go through the valley at times He is always faithful to bring us through it!

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 2005 09:17 PM
Isabelle will be eating 6.2 ccs of her mother's milk as of 12:01 AM tonight! And if all goes well, her pick-line on her left arm will come out (that's the line that goes up the inside of her arm into her chest's larger artery to feed her fluids). Praise the Lord she is feeding better (and going number 2:). We are praying she will get fattened up. Right now she is 2.4 pounds.
She is still fighting that infection which is affecting her breathing. Those rascally DESATs are still happening, which are the fluctuations in her blood's oxygen level. Once she fights this infection off and controls her DESATs, she can get off of the ventilator and be back on the CPAP (which is a breathing machine that give her air through her nose). We pray this will be soon.
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2005 09:50 PM
Isabelle had a pretty good day today on her ventilator. Her oxygen level still decreases some. Please pray she will be able to keep her oxygen level up on her own and her brain will mature so she can remember to breath. Then hopefully she can get off her ventilator.
She is still fighting the infection but she is getting better. Continue to pray for this.
The Lord has been teaching me that His way is best and that He has a perfect plan in this situation. Ps.145:9 says "The Lord is good to all and His tender mercies are over all His works." Even in this the Lord has been good to us and our little Isabelle.
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2005 09:00 PM, CDT
Isabelle had another pretty good day. Here are some specific things to pray about...1.For her lungs to mature more. 2.For her oxygen levels to stay at the right level. 3.For her to be able to come off the vent. soon and stay off.
Praise that Isabelle will be on full feeds (meaning no extra fluids) only mommy's milk at midnight tonight. She also gained another ounce and is weighing in at 2.55lbs.
God's grace is sufficient

Ahoy Captain Patch! Isabelle got her picture taken with a pirate a couple of months ago. We just got the picture. Notice she is in her sailor outfit. Shiver me timbers!!

Video w/update

Just a quick update. FYI we do not have internet right now so I'm without a connection unless I go to Ben's office or my sweet husband takes me to Panera to use their internet! :) We're taking Isabelle today to get an xray of her leg that she twisted or stepped on or somthing in her crib. She's still not wanting to put a lot of weight on it and favors it a lot. Pray that nothing is wrong. So glad you all followed our lead with getting these blogs started. It's so much fun to read them (esp. Sarah's you just have a way with words). We just have to get Paul and Jill to start one now. Cassandra, email us your blog, we don't know it. Have a good Truth Tracker Wednesday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Isabelle TODAY!!!! It's again hard to believe that a year has gone by already. I was thinking today about all that transpired just a year ago. Last year Isabelle was 2lbs on this day and today she is around 17lbs. Last year we were not sure if she would even make it and this year she is a very healthy and active baby girl! We are surely praising the Lord today for all that HE HAS DONE in her life and in our life through the last year.
On to the PARTY details...Isabelle had a great 1st bday with about 45 people at her party. We wanted to try to invite all those who were such a blessing, help, and encouragement to us this past year. The party was more for them as a thank you from us than it was for Isabelle. Isabelle did get her hands on a little bit of icing from her cupcake but we took it away and moved on to the presents before she got to the cake. She seemed to like the icing though! Overall, the party was a hit!! Thanks to all who could come!
Enjoy the new pics. Love and Birthday hugs~the ice's

Life Continues

Well, summer is over now and I can't believe it's gone so soon! As I was cleaning up the kitchen the other day I was getting a little sad thinking about the whole summer being gone already and school starting up again. I don't really know why I was sad b/c I don't go to school anymore but it must've just been me feeling a little "sentimental" again. I get that way sometimes I guess! :)

I've been teaching a girl at our house since May. During the summer I've been teaching her 2-3 days/week for 2 hours/day. And starting this Monday I will be teaching her 4 days/wk., 3 hours each day. I teach her reading, math, language arts, and handwriting. She's a really sweet girl with some special learning needs. She's in 4th grade. Isabelle does great b/c she's usally taking her morning nap for most of the time and now that she's getting bigger she can hold off on eating and soon I will be able to start giving her crackers and stuff like that which will help to hold her until she can be fed. What a blessing it is though to be able to teach from our house and earn a little income on the side.

Sarah (Ben's sis) has been hear for the past week and a half and it's been so great to have her! We love her and love it when she comes to visit us, we always have such a great time. She sure is the best sis-in-law a girl like me could ever have!! :) Isabelle loves her Auntie Sarah too!

Ben has been swamped as of late with Truth Trackers stuff. Getting orders filled and sent out, talking to pastors, ordering more materials, etc, etc.!! It's amazing how all of this has come together when it was a few years ago just a thought in his head for a memory program and the Lord has seen fit to bring it to a complete program. At the current moment we have Truth Trackers materials all over the house as we try to fill orders and organize materials. Little did we know that our house would turn into the Ice-Distributers Inc. :) Like anything, it's a lot of work but it's worth it in the end.

Well, I"ve blabbed on enough about our not so interesting life. Please pray as we will be taking Isabelle for her 1year eye exam next Friday. Pray that everything looks good. That there it no stigmatism or nearsightedness. Let us know if you checked our new blog and what you think of it! Love~Dayna

We just made a new family blog site which will someday completely replace our caringbridge.org/visit/isabelle website. We really enjoyed putting pics up of Isabelle and posting about how she is doing and now we want to make this one to tell all about our family and not just about her.

Since we're so far away from our family and some friends we thought this would be a good way to share with you all what is happening with us and what God is doing in our lives.

So, enjoy our new blog and let us know if you visit.

Love to All ~ Ben & Dayna
